Accessibility

Last updated: 24 April 2026

Kingston Compass is committed to ensuring our website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standard.

What we're doing

We have taken the following steps to make Kingston Compass accessible:

  • Semantic HTML: We use proper heading structure, landmarks, and HTML elements so assistive technologies can navigate the site effectively.
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements โ€” links, buttons, forms, and menus โ€” are accessible via keyboard.
  • Colour contrast: Text and interactive elements meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (minimum 4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
  • Alternative text: Images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are hidden from assistive technologies.
  • Responsive design: The site works across screen sizes, from mobile devices to desktops, and supports text resizing up to 200%.
  • Focus indicators: Visible focus styles are provided for keyboard users.
  • Plain language: We write in clear, straightforward English to make content easy to understand.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following areas where accessibility could be improved, and we are actively working on them:

  • Interactive map: Our map feature relies on MapLibre GL JS and may not be fully accessible to screen reader users. We provide venue information in list form as an alternative.
  • Third-party content: Some embedded content or links to external websites may not meet accessibility standards. We cannot control the accessibility of third-party sites.

Venue accessibility information

We understand that accessibility information about venues themselves โ€” such as step-free access, accessible toilets, and hearing loops โ€” is important for many of our visitors.

Where we have verified accessibility information about a venue, we include it on its listing page. However, we recommend contacting venues directly to confirm their current accessibility provisions before visiting, as these can change.

Feedback and contact

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of Kingston Compass. If you encounter any barriers or have suggestions for improvement, please let us know:
