The Hart's Boatyard
Spacious riverside pub and restaurant on the Thames with an upstairs restaurant, waterside terrace, and views that catch the sunset. Best on a weekday afternoon after a walk along the river.
Why we love it
One of the few spots where you can sit almost at the water's edge with a proper meal. The weekday lunch crowd is thin, the terrace is peaceful, and the sunset views over the Thames are hard to beat.
The Hart's Boatyard sits right on the Thames in Surbiton — a big, comfortable pub with a separate upstairs restaurant and a terrace where tables look directly out over the water. Sailing dinghies drift past, motor boats bob at the moorings, and on a clear evening the sunset fills the whole stretch of river. It's a Mitchells & Butlers pub (Premium Country Dining Group), so expect a broad menu covering pub classics, seasonal dishes, pizzas, burgers, and steaks. Weekend brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from 9:30am. Cask ales include Fuller's London Pride and St Austell Tribute. The sweet spot is a weekday afternoon — come after a walk along the river from Kingston or through Seething Wells, settle on the terrace, and let lunch stretch. Service can be slow when it's busy (especially hot weekends), so weekdays are genuinely the better experience. Dog-friendly in the bar area, parking on site, and free WiFi. **[View the full lunch menu →](https://www.hartsboatyard.co.uk/lunchmenu)** **[View the full food menu →](https://www.hartsboatyard.co.uk/content/pcdg/south-east/hartsboatyard/menus)**
