Jin Go Gae
Authentic Korean BBQ cooked over real charcoal, not gas — you can taste the difference in every caramelized edge.
Why we love it
One of the few in New Malden using proper charcoal grills, packed with Korean families, and home to face-tingling gae jang.
There's a romantic story behind Jin Go Gae — the owner named it after the place in Seoul where he met his wife. But the real reason to make the 12-minute walk from Motspur Park station? They cook over proper red-hot charcoal, not gas, and you can taste the difference in every caramelized edge of beef. The room fills with Korean families as smoke rises from tabletop grills, and the service is friendly in that unhurried, we've-been-doing-this-for-years way. It's not the most convenient location — off the high street on Burlington Road — but that's part of the charm. The gae jang (spicy raw crab) is face-tingling, finger-licking stuff worth the trip alone. The kalbi tang (short rib soup) is their house specialty, and the marinated short beef rib off the charcoal is exactly what you came for. **Local's Tip:** Skip the gas-powered BBQ spots on the high street. Jin Go Gae is where New Malden's Korean community actually eats — and they've been coming here for years.
