Surbeanton
The healthy-ish brunch spot Surbiton locals swear by. Famous porridge, properly executed shakshuka, and Allpress coffee in an airy, modern space on Victoria Road.
Why we love it
Proves healthy brunch doesn't mean boring. The shakshuka and cilbir are neighbourhood legends.
Surbeanton — the name's a local portmanteau you'll either love or tolerate — has carved out a loyal following with its fresh-focused approach to brunch. The philosophy is simple: taste and health belong together, using all-natural ingredients without sacrificing flavour. It works. The all-day brunch menu lets you build your own around a base of eggs on toast, but the set options are where they shine. The shakshuka arrives in the pan, eggs just-set in a properly spiced tomato sauce. The cilbir — Turkish poached eggs in garlicky yoghurt with spicy frothed butter — is the kind of dish that converts sceptics. Their "Famous Porridge" has earned its name. For plant-based eaters, the Survegan Breakfast and vegan pancakes hold their own. Coffee is Allpress on espresso, done right. The space is airy and modern, and works equally well for catching up with friends or eating solo without feeling awkward. Walk-ins only — no bookings — which keeps things casual. **Local's Tip:** Closed Mondays. Kitchen closes at 3:30pm, so don't leave it too late. The Eggs Royale with salmon is exceptional if you're not in a shakshuka mood.
